The Cellar by Dan Murphy’s

After being engaged by Endeavour Group, over a 10-week construction period our team worked alongside our partners to deliver a one of a kind offering for the Dan Murphy’s portfolio – a new concept, The Cellar By Dan Murphy’s.

With more than 2,800 products housed at The Cellar, and 350 of them are so rare the Cellar only stocks one or two of them, the store was designed to appeal to a growing residential population and corporate clientele in Sydney’s Martin Place. The cellar is unlike any other Dan Murphy’s store, providing a destination space for city wine lovers and spirits aficionados.

The project features a temperature-controlled Icon tasting room, a unique layout and ornate marble columns, stylish fixtures and impressive hardwood floor. The heritage-inspired design is in harmony with the premium range of wines, bespoke spirits and curated beers on offer.

The site is heritage listed which informed the design and aesthetics to fit in with the existing rather than change it. The renovation maintains the legacy of the heritage building by keeping the pre-existing fixtures and lighting. The ornate marble columns have been preserved, and the internal layout and colour scheme retained.

The site of the project is located at 53 Martin Place Sydney at the corner of Phillip Street and Martin Place and is the former Lindt Café site, which holds significance as the location of the tragic siege in 2014 that resulted in the tragic deaths of Katrina Dawson and Tori Johnson. We would like to take a moment to pay our respects and keep all in our thoughts who were impacted by this incident. At the commencement of this project, we held a gathering to take a pause to reflect and pay our respects. It’s also important to remind people there is a permanent place of remembrance for the victims just outside on Martin Place, where a plaque and a series of artificial flowers are set into the pavement, where floral tributes were laid by the people of Sydney. In-store, you’ll see the original plaques on the inner wall of the cellar and a permanent floral tribute housed on the central tasting table. A mounted vase, inscribed with the names of each person, is kept full with fresh flowers, a nod to the outpouring of support from Sydneysiders who left thousands of floral tributes following the attack.
