Society - Lucas Group

MPA was engaged to add a new dining experience, Society, to the new retail and hospitality precinct on the site of the heritage listed Le Lourve building at 80 Collins Street.

Society is based on fine dining and a level of sophistication that would place it in conversations with restaurants such as Vue de Monde. The design, by Melbourne design firm Russell and George, is “a contemporary reimagining of mid-century”. Grand yet intimate, it promises a 180-degree outlook over Collins and Exhibition streets.

There are three distinct but seamlessly connected spaces: a lavish, Martini-perfect lounge bar; a breezy terrace for al fresco dining; and a main restaurant with lofty ceilings (as well as private dining areas).

The restaurant features hiigh-end finishes that mix stone and timber to present an outstanding space, perforated ceilings custom designed by Russell and George as a backdrop to magnificent chandeliers that weigh 300 kgs each. In addition an external structure creating the Pavilion Lounge as a separate dining area.

An extensive level of services were coordinated to allow high end kitchen installation.The main kitchen of Society has been touted as the best restaurant kitchen in Australia.
